plenice/diapers

V vrtcu so neznansko prijazni in sodelujejo z nami. Vsak vecer prinesemo umazane plenice domov. Speremo pokakane, razdelimo in damo v kos kjer pocakajo do pranja.

  • During Olive’s pregnancy I started thinking of cloth diapering to save money. My reasoning was that beside doing laundry it could not be that hard doing some extra loads of diapers.

  • We bought used diapers. Got 21 of them with the diaper bag, diaper pail and shower head that attaches to the toilet for cleaning diapers. For all of it we got a really good price.

  • Diapers are Bum Genius and you can use them for a newborn up to 30 pounds. They fold based on the size you need.

  • Diapers have covers and inserts that get put in the pocket of the cover. The cover is waterproof and insert soaks everything in.

  • When the diaper is dirty we take the insert out of the cover and throw it in the diaper pail. Soiled diaper gets rinsed in the toilet before taken apart and put in a diaper pail.

  • Diapers get washed twice in the washing machine. Once on cold and second time on hot. Inserts get dried in a dryer and covers need to be air dried. It sounds like a lot of work but it is easy as they get sorted out before hand. We just wash them through the cycles and dry them. The cover dries really fast. Sometime in an hour.

  • From the beginning I new I wanted a higher number of diapers. Mostly because we need to send them to daycare too. This way we get to wash them every second or third day. At the daycare they are great and willing to work with Olive’s diapers. Every day we bring home dirty ones in a bag. I clean the soiled ones, sort them and throw them in the diaper pail.

  • We didn’t start using cloth diapers until Olive was about eight weeks old. I read somewhere it is easier to stick with it if you wait out the newborn stage a bit. Once we used the disposable ones we have started with cloth.

  • Whenever we travel, Olive has a sore bottom or she is on antibiotic we use disposables. It is easier on every one. Also diaper creams should not be used with cloth diapers. They do not get washed out of them and diaper can no longer be waterproof.

  • After a year of cloth diapers we are not tired of them yet. I am pretty sure we will continue to use them until she will be potty trained. She has already started telling us when her diaper is dirty and needs to be changed. Maybe there is something to the tale of kids in cloth diapers being potty trained sooner.

Thank you for this post! I am so interested in trying cloth diapers in hopes of saving money. Now I am going to do some research on the diapers you mentioned in your blog. I just bought cloth ones from the store, but they didn't come with any type of protective lining. Thanks for suggesting waiting until after the newborn stage too. That's good to know!
